CREEK CHARACTERISTICS
Central Mill Creek (Grandy’s Pond to Grand River)
- No significant groundwater discharge
- Two significant dams and pond/reservoir, Grandy’s Map » and Shade’s Mills Map »
- Upper reach, from Grandy’s Dam to Shade’s Mills Reservoir, flows though a mostly natural channel
- Centre reach, downstream of Shade’s Mill Dam to Clyde Road, flows through a flat cedar swamp
- Cambridge flows largely controlled by Shade’s Mills Dam
- Lower reach flows through a mainly urbanized environment
- Gravel banks and bed from Clyde Road to Elgin Street
- Stormwater outlets discharge directly to creek

- Soper Park rehabilitation and naturalization completed in 1996 including a more meandering channel, establishment of two natural pools and four weirs, and creek bank stabilization using bioengineering techniques (use of natural materials)
- Recreational fishing in Soper Park for bass and pike, as well as Brown Trout which are stocked bi-annually by MNR
- Vegetated channel from Soper Park to Kerr Street
- Armoured channel about 600 m. long to Main Street
- Pressured concrete culvert to Grand River
