FISHERY
OBJECTIVES

Maintain, restore
and enhance
natural processes

COLD-WATER FISHERY OBJECTIVES: Issues

Assessment/Data Collection

  • On contribution of McCrimmon Creek, Pond Creek, T3 and numerous other unnamed tributaries
  • On opportunities to eliminate sedimentation at Highway 401 culverts
  • On opportunities to eliminate channelized sections and restore natural creek geometry, Highway 401/Highway 6 interchange
  • On cause, extent and threat posed by sedimentation in McCrimmon Creek
  • On extent of ponds and impoundments and their thermal impact
  • On existing and potential impact of adjacent livestock operations

Aquatic Habitat
(creek geometry, fish barriers)

  • McCrimmon Creek fishery potentially impaired by excessive sedimentation; appears to vary depending on time of year and flow volumes
  • Channelized section adjacent to Highway 401 in need of rehabilitation; previous rehabilitation structures either in disrepair or totally gone
  • Trout numbers and biomass in channelized section much lower than immediate downstream reaches
  • Significant volume of in-stream debris in a number of locations
  • Culvert on Sideroad 20 and in-stream debris an impediment to accessing T3 Tributary spawning areas
  • Alders require pollarding in a number of locations
  • Existing deflectors need to be maintained and new structures added in selected locations
  • Some loss of meander pattern in other areas
  • Some loss of riffle/pool sequences
